Did anyone happen to go to that ludicrous display this weekend? You know, the first annual Seattle Christmas Market at Seattle Center? If you want to experience a quasi-German winter festival, just go to Leavenworth for Christmastown, because the Seattle Christmas Market isn't even worth it. Did you catch that near-pun? That was definitely still word-play. Seriously. I think I spent a dollar a minute here. It was $20 a person to get in. I legit think we spent roughly 20 minutes walking around before we decided to GTFO. That isn't to say there was nothing interesting, but even the interesting was ridiculously overpriced.
At least Seattle Center is highly transit centered. I grabbed the light rail from Roosevelt and transferred to the Monorail at Westlake to get here. People need to realize the Monorail is a legit form of public transit. We should expand this thing!
We came. We saw. We had some Glühwein. We...left. I will try not to judge harshly, given that this was year ONE of an attempt at this, but I feel like Seattle, of all places is a rough place to make this stick. I literally don't think of Seattle as a "Christmas Market" kind of place. Now if we pushed all of our chips to Leavenworth and created the nations greatest Christmas Market, I wouldn't bat an eye. That's almost expected.
I've mentioned this several times, but I, like so many others, am a transplant to the area. As someone who grew up in Pennsylvania, we had many Christmas Markets, especially Christmas markets trying to emulate the German Christmas Markets. Most popularly so, is probably the Bethlehem, PA Christmas Market,
Christkindlmarkt near the SteelStacks! At the very least, they got the fun Germanic spelling of an Xmas market! Even if you were bored asf, that place took at least an hour to stumble across. And they had some actually cool things like distillery spirit tastings, wine tasting, ice carvings, a HUGE food hall, ice skating, and literally a bunch more. How much did it cost to get in? Legit...12 bucks. Not in the 20 dollars that this Seattle Christmas Market demands. It's like a fifth of the size, with quadruple the pricing of items. I literally backed away from some of the shops in shock of how expensive some of the things were here. Let me tell you something, how high the prices are in Seattle is NOT charming.

We got some cinnamon sugar almonds from a shop. Idk. It was probably like $50. Why am I here again?

Because I'm an idiot I'll probably go to year two as well. Who knows, maybe they've improved. Maybe not. Maybe I'll just drown my sorrows in Gluhwein (mulled wine with spices). It's really the glue that hold us together during the Xmas season I think.
What do you think Seattle needs to do to up it's Christmas Market game?
