Un Bien - A Good...Place

Un Bien has made a name for themselves in Seattle as one of the top tier sandwich shops in the area. With food like they're serving who needs a full name? Un Bien. A Good. A Good what? It doesn't matter. Everything is good. All of it is good. Seattle has a weird niche of great Caribbean and Caribbean-adjacent food places. Bongos, hello??

They now have THREE locations, which is potentially dangerous once you know how good they can be. There's one in "greater Ballard" which is technically Whittier Heights, Shilshole Bay area of Ballard on Seaview Ave NW (great spot to hit after a day at Golden Gardens!), and the most recently opened Queen Anne location (only 3 blocks north of Kerry Park, *wink wink*).

Today's Un Bien is essentially Paseo of the past. Paseo's original owner lost the restaurant, and his sons took the recipes and started Un Bien to carry on the culinary excellence. The Paseo of today is owned by a different person (they simply kept the name Paseo) and had to formulate their own recipe. Most people hard agree that today's Un Bien beats Paseo of today. What says you?

Walk up right off the street and order some deliciousness.

Un Bien is certainly most known for their Caribbean Roast Pork, but they have so many other choices that are worth salivating over.

This last visit we hit up the north Ballard location after Carkeek Park. I got the Smokin' Thighs sandwich (Grilled boneless chicken thighs basted with their marinade which makes it all worth it)

Map of where the northern Ballard / Whittier Heights location is. Take the D Line to effortlessly arrive! The unmistakable painted colors of the sandwich shack make it impossible to miss from the road.

Un Bien Outdoor Seating
There's a small seating area if you choose to eat your goods on site. If there's room, I'd suggest it. It looks like they had above-head heaters so fret not about coming during the colder months.

Per Un Bien

All sandwiches are on a toasted Giuseppe baguette made by Macrina Bakery slathered with aioli (garlic mayo), fresh cilantro, pickled jalapeños, crisp romaine & caramelized onions. Optional bread choice: flour tortilla.

I paired that with a side of their acclaimed Black Beans and Rice. Good god. It was all so good. I could eat those rice and beans for all meals of the day. They have a delicious sweetness to them.

Smokin Thighs Sandwich Un Bien
I didn't have it in me to take a good picture. I was starving and this smelled so good. It was. Smokin Thighs Sandwich.

Drink wise they have water, soda, and specialty soda" which is just glass bottles of Jarritos. I'll take it!
